Title: Director, Internal Communications

Reports to: US Head of Communications

Direct Reports: Internal Communications Specialist 

Overall Job Function: The Director of Internal Communications is responsible developing best-in-class communications strategies that inspire, engage and inform H&M’s 15,000+ employees across the United States. This role will work with senior leaders to develop dynamic content that motivates teams and builds connectivity between colleagues across stores, warehouses and corporate offices. 


The Director of Internal Communications will lead internal communications efforts, acting as a trusted advisor to teams and serving as an ambassador of H&M’s brand, vision and values. The ideal candidate is a skillful writer, strong communicator, and creative thinker that can seamlessly align communications programs to the evolving needs of the business.


Job Responsibility including but not limited to: 


Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and execute internal communications strategies for H&M’s US organization to engage employees and support local and global business needs

  • Develop collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams and leaders to provide support for key initiatives and advise on best-practices 

  • Oversee priority business messaging, including change communications and leadership announcements, bringing clarity to complex ideas

  • Partner with Country Crisis Management team to build strategies around sensitive issues and promote transparency among teams

  • Identify opportunities to drive storytelling around H&M’s vision, values, culture and campaigns to inspire and motivate a workforce of over 15,000 employees nationwide

  • Partner closely with Human Resources team to build H&M’s employer brand

  • Analyze tactics and experiment with new ideas to optimize employee engagement and modernize the function 


Communications Platforms and Branding:

  • Oversee content development and community management of digital internal communications platforms 

  • Develop and manage internal newsletters to store, warehouse and corporate office staff to support the daily needs of the business 

  • Oversee internal events including townhalls and virtual meetings

  • Develop guidelines, policies and working procedures to support the functional infrastructure

  • Manage the design and branding of internal materials to ensure consistent visuals and tone of voice across the company


Additional Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for planning, timelines and budgets for internal communication initiatives, working with set budget to negotiates pricing with vendors 

  • Manage and develop Internal Communications Specialist


Minimum Candidate Qualifications:

  • BS in Communications, Marketing or a related field

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in human resource or corporate communications 

  • Proven track record of managing effective communications programs within a large complex organization

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff 

  • Strategic planning, issues/crisis management and change communications experience

  • Attention to detail, organization and digital-savviness

  • Adept at measuring programs and gathering insights to continuously improve employee engagement across the company

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
