Job Summary:
The Fashion Program at Marist College invites applications for two Professional Lecturer positions beginning Fall 2023 in the area of Fashion Merchandising, open area of specialization Primary duties include teaching undergraduate courses within the Fashion Merchandising major, across the Fashion Business, Fashion Promotion and Product Development concentrations. The successful candidates will demonstrate a strong analytical and creative skill set, deep knowledge of the latest disruptions within the fashion industry, and the ability to teach and critique student work based on the standards of the fashion industry. In addition, candidates will demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to all racial, ethnic, religious, and social groups, and incorporate this understanding into teaching and learning experiences.
This position aligns with the School of Communication and the Arts mission to inspire students to be ethically responsible professionals, with an understanding of sustainable and social responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Seven years of relevant industry related experience
A strong desire to teach at a student-centered college
Essential Functions:
Teach a variety of undergraduate merchandising courses that may include desired areas of specialization such as: Fashion Culture and Commerce, Trend Forecasting, Textile Science, Product Development, Sustainability, Digital Design, Supply Chain and Corporate Social Responsibility, or Global Merchandising.
Mentor senior capstone thesis projects and student scholarship competition entries.
Meet with students outside of class time for additional instruction as appropriate.
Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and college committee service, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, and community/industry outreach.
Engage in academic advising.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree or terminal degree (in Fashion Merchandising or a related discipline (such as an MBA)
Ten or more years of relevant industry experience; teaching experience is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who have a portfolio of skillsets that demonstrate competencies in subject matter.
Deep collaborative spirit to work with program faculty on cross-pollination of design and merchandising coursework, curriculum evolution and new interdisciplinary approaches to program initiatives
